和泉 侃 Kan Izumi

Scents and fragrances, though lacking a clear form, evoke memories, stir thoughts, and evoke a range of emotions through the sense of smell. Based on his keen insight and intuitive observations, Kan Izumi explores what we imagine, perceive, and how scents and fragrances influence our actions and reactions.

Within the seemingly ordinary landscape unfolding before us, he relies on his sense of smell to weave together fragments of memory, awakening the consciousness slumbering in the abyss, and encountering the profound emotion of being alive in the present moment.

Izumi's artwork is not merely a combination of diverse molecular structures of fragrances (= perfumery). He interprets the energy of space, the scenes of people living there, and the passage of time from his unique perspective, skillfully incorporating diverse elements such as surrounding light, color, illustrations, and words to create situations that awaken the sense of smell.

This evolves into an interactive mixed-media experience that revives the body and life of those who confront it.
